Why only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

We all have the right to protect ourselves, if not the right to hurt anyone else. Other martial art forms require you to hit the opponent which leads to injuries and accidents. Jackson Fortunato always tells that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a gentle nonviolent martial art form. People of all ages and genders can learn this martial art form. If used well, a physically weak person can keep himself/herself safe from a physically strong person. Let’s look at BJJ’s attributes one by one.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is Nonviolent

By saying nonviolent self defense techniques we mean punch blocks, joint locks, choking, escapes from the grips, control, and strikes in this martial art which make it unique from other martial arts.

By using control techniques you can hold the attacker or the bully down minimizing the injury in the whole scenario. With control techniques, you can put the attacker on the ground in a submissive position where he becomes inactive. This is a safe way to deal with bullies and attackers.

By choking the attacker or bully’s sensitive body points, you can stop the blood flow without crushing the trachea i.e. without hurting or injuring them. This will keep them inactive for a while. They will give up when they feel tired. When chocked, they will think about getting out of the choking grip instead of attacking you.

As the attacker or the bully is tired, they will be less dangerous. Punch blocks are important in a non-violent self defense to keep you safe and not hurt in return. Even the most average looking guy or a girl can pull off these techniques.

Why not hurt the attacker or the bully?

If you hurt the attacker or the bully badly, the law allows them to sue you for the damages. In the legal battle, lawyers might prove that the attacker is a victim and you are the accuser. They can turn the tables in a courtroom. When you are attacked, your priority should be keeping yourself safe – BJJ teaches you techniques to keep yourself safe.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a Gentle Martial Art Form, here’s why

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu uses skills over strength

BJJ is the art of skills – It doesn’t use strength. When the attacker shows aggression and strength, he can be dealt with the gentle art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The masters of BJJ execute the techniques with a relaxed mind and use their attacker’s force against them. You don’t necessarily need bigger muscles to execute BJJ tactics. However, a relaxed mind can help you outperform your opponent. That is the primary reason why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is fit for all ages.

People of different age groups have different physical strengths, yet they all can have a relaxed mind, which is a necessity to perform BJJ. This is a very strong reason to start your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at any age.

Jiu means gentle or to give way and Jitsu means to practice a way or principle or an art. Combining these two means an art of gentleness.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes Longevity

It is more forgiving than numerous other athletic exercises. At the point when done wisely and at a fitting power, it develops the body without breaking it down. So regardless of its ability to cause hurt, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not bite up the body like numerous western games or other hand to hand fighting. Grandmasters Helio and Carlos Gracie encapsulated this standard, proceeding with their practice into their 90’s.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is easy-going and because it reduces anger, stress, and insecurities. That’s another strong reason why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is fit for all ages.

Rules of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The rules of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are universal and adopted in other forms of grappling as well. Some of the general rules include no kicking, punching, biting, fishhooking, eye gouging, individual finger locks, and hair grabbing. As you move forward in your self defense classes, you will learn about more rules. These make Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a safe but effective martial art form.

More than body strength, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is body science, which is open to people of all age groups and genders.

So, you see there are enough reasons that convince that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone irrespective of the age, gender, and physical strength. It goes well with all body types and energies as it builds with the body and not breaks it down.

Jackson Fortunato, the head coach at Memorial Brazilian Jiu Jitsu encourages people of all age groups and genders to take up BJJ self defense classes in Houston.

Jackson started learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in South Brazil in 1999. After completing his training, he thought of sharing his knowledge of BJJ. He moved to London where he spread the love for BJJ among people.

It’s been 5 years since he started Memorial Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Houston School and he has got a good response since then from people of all ages.

This should clear all the doubts regarding the age factor for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu learning. If you still have any doubt

BJJ is for all! I have seen many people asking question at my gym that if they are young enough to get started in BJJ. Age doesn’t really matter you can get started whenever you want, I mean sure strength does matter but what matters the most are the techniques.
